BUILD A PRACTICAL HOME-OFFICE BUSINESS

Work From Home as a California Real Estate Agent

Working from home can give you more control over your time and overhead. A successful home-office real estate business still needs structure, client access, consistent prospecting, and a broker you can reach.

Start with a dependable workspace

Choose a place where you can review contracts, speak privately with clients, attend virtual meetings, and maintain an organized transaction workflow. A dependable computer, internet connection, phone, and document-access system are practical starting points.

Use secure accounts and the company-approved systems for transaction documents. Keep client information out of shared family accounts or unsecured devices. Plan for interruptions and know where you can work if your internet or home workspace becomes unavailable.

Build your day around work that creates business

HomeBased Realty® does not require mandatory office hours or rigid desk duties. The flexibility works best when you decide in advance how to use it.

  • Start with deadlines: review escrows, follow up on documents, and respond to time-sensitive client needs.
  • Protect a prospecting block: call past clients, follow up with your network, and develop local relationships.
  • Schedule client work: appointments, showings, pricing research, offers, and listing preparation.
  • Close the loop: update your records, confirm the next action, and communicate with the broker when guidance is needed.

This is a sample routine, not a company production requirement. Your schedule should reflect your market, clients, and business goals.

Make convenience part of your client service

Your client should know how to reach you, what response time to expect, and where meetings can take place. Virtual meetings and electronic signatures make some conversations easier; other conversations are better in person.

HomeBased Realty® has long used the motto “We Make House Calls.” The point is practical: meet clients where it makes sense for the work. Working from home does not mean being unavailable, avoiding property visits, or expecting every client to manage a transaction digitally.

Use the tools without losing the personal relationship

HomeBased Realty® offers cloud contracts and forms, electronic signatures, training resources, virtual meetings, and transaction support. The HBRiHUB AI resource can help agents find company information, while broker guidance remains important for transaction questions and decisions.

Some services are optional or subject to eligibility, vendor terms, or service areas. For example, a CRM and agent website are optional, transaction coordination is an optional service, and Matterport tours are available in selected areas. Review What We Offer for the distinctions.

Keep a realistic view of income and expenses

Less office commuting or rent may reduce overhead, but a home-based affiliation does not supply a salary or guarantee closings. You remain responsible for generating business and managing your professional expenses.

Use the program calculator to compare brokerage fees at a conservative production level. Keep MLS and association dues, personal marketing, transportation, optional services, and other business expenses in your own budget. The calculator’s net estimate is not take-home income after every expense.

If a home-office model fits your goals, request a hiring package and discuss your location, experience, and preferred way of working.

Common questions

Will I have mandatory office hours?

HomeBased Realty® describes a flexible model without mandatory office hours or rigid desk duties. Agents remain responsible for client service, deadlines, communication, and brokerage requirements.

Will the brokerage generate my business for me?

No. Agents are independent contractors responsible for generating their own business. Tools and training support that work; they do not guarantee leads or income.

Can newer agents ask about joining?

Yes. The recruiting form accepts inquiries from different experience levels. Affiliation and the appropriate support arrangement are subject to broker review and approval.
